The aim of this award-winning school is to equip local children to develop skills and gain employment in a modern society but equally preserve the traditional Buddhist culture of Ladakh. The masterplan accommodates a phased development of the school, eventually catering for around 750 pupils aged from 4 to 18 from across Ladakh (including provision for 250 boarding students).

The design of the buildings had to address the challenging high-altitude desert climate in which energy, water and materials are scarce. The building materials are mud brick, granite and wood, with high thermal walls and mud roofs designed to provide comfortable conditions in summer and store warmth in winter. Buildings are designed to exploit passive solar energy and natural ventilation, reinterpreting the local vernacular in a contemporary way, in what has been described a “clever low-tech” approach.

这一屡获殊荣的学校的设计目标是帮助当地的孩子们培养技巧和在现代社会上得到就业机会，但同时要保存拉达克传统的佛教文化。该项目的总体规划一期是一座学校，最终能容纳大约750名年龄4到18岁不等的来自拉达克全境的学生（包括为250名住宿生提供的生活物资）。该学校的设计要适应严酷的高海拔沙漠气候，和那里贫乏的能源、水源和材料。建筑材料主要是粘土砖、水泥和木材，保温墙体和粘土屋面提供了冬暖夏凉的室内环境。建筑设计利用被动式太阳能和自然通风，重新以现代方式诠释了当地习俗，因此这种方法也被称为“聪明的低科技”方法。
